چکیده

The recently developed Classical Stochastic Diffusion Theory is applied to obtain the coverage dependence of desorption rates for Xe on W(111). Using the attractive Xe-Xe potential from gas phase experiments, we find a strong coverage dependence in the desorption rates and calculate Temperature Programmed Desorption Spectra (for a potential with reduced attractiveness) that are in excellent qualitative agreement with experimental results. We also investigated the effect of purely repulsive adsorbate-adsorbate interactions where we find, for some coverage ranges, that two different adsorption configurations can be stable (at different temperatures) leading to a marked change in the corresponding desorption rates and to distinct non-Arrhenius behavior.

Simulating Temperature Programmed Desorption of Oxygen on Pt(111) Using DFT Derived Coverage Dependent Desorption Barriers

The dissociative adsorption energy of oxygen on Pt(111) is known to be coverage dependent. Simple Redhead analysis of temperature programmed desorption (TPD) experiments that assumes a coverage independent desorption barrier can lead to errors in estimated properties such as desorption barriers and adsorption energies. A simple correction is to assume a linear coverage dependence of the desorpt...

Effects of Conformational Isomerism on the Desorption Kinetics of N-Alkanes from Graphite

The dynamics of oligomer desorption from surfaces have been studied by measuring the desorption kinetics of a set of n-alkanes from the surface of single crystalline graphite. Desorption rates were measured using a set of 21 monodispersed n-alkanes (CNH2N12,5<N<60) each adsorbed at coverages in the range ,0.1 to .1 monolayers. Desorption is observed to be a first-order process with a desorption...

Coverage dependence of the kinetics for H 2 desorption from Rh ( 111 )

Coverage-dependent sticking probabilities and second-order rate constants for recombinative desorption of hydrogen from Rh( 111 ) have been measured using molecular beam relaxation spectroscopy (MBRS) and time-resolved specular helium scattering. The sticking probability follows second-order Langmuir coverage dependence, with So equal to 0.01 ___ 0.005. Under isothermal and nearly isosteric con...

Enantiospecific desorption of R- and S-propylene oxide from D- or L-lysine modified Cu(100) surfaces.

The enantiospecific desorption kinetics of R- and S-propylene oxide (PO) from a Cu(100) surface modified by enantiomerically pure D- or L-lysine have been studied using temperature programmed desorption. These experiments have used R- or S-PO as the chiral probe for study of enantiospecific adsorption on Cu(100) surfaces modified with D- or L-lysine. This chiral probe/modifier/Cu system manifes...

n-alkanes on MgO(100). II. Chain length dependence of kinetic desorption parameters for small n-alkanes.

Coverage-dependent desorption-kinetics parameters are obtained from high-quality temperature-programmed desorption data for seven small n-alkane molecules on MgO(100). The molecules, CNH2N+2 (N=1-4,6,8,10), were each studied for a set of 29 initial coverages at a heating ramp rate of 0.6 K/s as well as at a set of nine ramp rates in the range of 0.3-10.0 K/s. The inversion analysis method with ...
